Left 4 Dead - Virtual Team building with Valve Software

"I'm pinned, someone get me up."
"Hang on a second and let me heal you up."

The date was Friday the 13th and I would like to say it was a dark and stormy night, but the truth was it was a bright and sunny afternoon. We actually had to close the blinds in our South Florida offices because the sun was producing too much glare on our monitors.

The event was a huge success and saw our team working together for a common goal. So much so that exactly one week after we all got together again, off-hours, to complete the next level together.

Apple's inspirational keyboard design

Apple's keyboard design

With the current crop of new Mac Books that is saturating the market these days, much can be said about the innovative and inspirational design that has gone into their hardware. Apple has always been known for their award winning design. And they always seem to be the trend setter with many other manufacturers following in Apple's footsteps.

However the latest crop of keyboards which they have been using in the Mac Books really makes me wish that others won't follow (do you hear me Sony?).

Is this really innovative design?

Or is Apple really not the trend setter that everyone thinks they are?

Maybe the true style masters were at Radio Shack back in the 1980's...

The uplifting effects of twitter

Some have said that there is so much "noise" on twitter that anything of value is so diminished because it is difficult to find. Now it is arguable to say that this "noise" is caused by the way someone has configured their account, how they access their account (via PC or mobile device) or just the people that they are following. However regardless of my concerns with the usefulness (or the business model, or lack of, that everyone seems so interested in) of twitter.com, I did find one particular item very uplifting and helpful... If anything just a boost to my ego. After adding and removing so many dead beat followers (spammers and non-existent twitter accounts) I decided to follow a particular celebrity ("The Real One" so I was informed). My uplifting and defining twitter moment came several days later when I received an email.  Even if it only lasted a few moments it was special and put a smile on my face when I read the email subject: " Britney Spears is now following you on Twitter! "

Planning our virtual team building event

Planning a team building event in today's uncertain economy can surely be a challenge. Aside from the cost of the event you must also consider the cost of lost time (which is so crucial with the overall economy slowing more each day). However, the optimist in my sees this as the most opportune time to have our first ever "Virtual Team Building" event. When would be a better time to enjoy work, your co-workers and life in general? In 3 months when the economy slows even more and we are all overflowing with media depression? Or in 9 months when everything picks up and we are so busy we don't have time to take a break?

I say there is no better time than the present and we have set out to make it happen.

Seeing as one of our team works remotely, its not economical to all get together in one physical location. So we have opted for a virtual event. This Friday happens to be Friday the 13th (again, since we just had one in February) and since we all made it through unscathed last month, why not use it to our advantage now.

Our theme is set and our plan is in place. We still have to work out some of the technical details but hopefully will confirm everything tomorrow!

Good reasons to add twitter to your marketing plan

twitter.com A recent article by Chris Crum of smallbusinessnewz.com compared some of the good and bad of twitter marketing. While it can always be improved upon, the reality is that twitter is another marketing channel to use. The reasons to use it are valid:
  • People "opt in" to follow you, so your audience is targeted
  • Social networks are taking over email in terms of popularity. Twitter is a very popular one.
  • Twitter is growing rapidly.
  • Can be a great channel for customer service if you maintain it.
  • Make news announcements on one channel
  • Lets you interact directly with the public and increases brand awareness
  • Real-time search is going to rise to demand
