Planning a team building event in today's uncertain economy can surely be a challenge. Aside from the cost of the event you must also consider the cost of lost time (which is so crucial with the overall economy slowing more each day). However, the optimist in my sees this as the most opportune time to have our first ever "Virtual Team Building" event. When would be a better time to enjoy work, your co-workers and life in general? In 3 months when the economy slows even more and we are all overflowing with media depression? Or in 9 months when everything picks up and we are so busy we don't have time to take a break?
I say there is no better time than the present and we have set out to make it happen.
Seeing as one of our team works remotely, its not economical to all get together in one physical location. So we have opted for a virtual event. This Friday happens to be Friday the 13th (again, since we just had one in February) and since we all made it through unscathed last month, why not use it to our advantage now.
Our theme is set and our plan is in place. We still have to work out some of the technical details but hopefully will confirm everything tomorrow!

Sounds like a plan. FYI, Trend Micro did a virtual training and virtual team building event in Second Life recently. Here's a summary of it:
